Dear Bob;

I received yesterday and was very glad to hear from you. I hope everything is fine with you. Things aren't too bad over here for me. I feel a touch of the flu but it's not bad enough for a profile.

I tried to keep up a record of things I do between our letters but didn't stick to it and it's too hard to remember all the details now.

We've moved into Dong Tam, yesterday, right across the street from where we were before. Down stairs this time. There's a large new E.M. club now, with girls (Vietnamese) that serve the beer. They're shape looking too. With a body that won't quit.

I made Spec/4 last week finally. I've been assistant squad leader for about the last three weeks. It sucks. I thought I'd get out of details but the damn Platoon Sgt hates my guts and puts me on every detail that comes along. I was Dewing a little last night and got pretty high. Laughed a lot and played the guitar.

I'm glad you said you'd write my parents. I know enjoy hearing from you. I told them in my last letter that you had been wounded shortly after we got here and had been sent home. I haven't mentioned my wound, I think it would worry them and it's only a scratch.

You went to Clear Lake, huh!? Sounds like a lot of fun. We'll have to go up there when I get home. I've never water skied before, maybe you could show me how. Boy, can't wait to get home. 163 days not counting my four day drop.

I haven't taken my R&R yet. I want to take it when we go back on the ships which could be around 60 days. I chose these three places: Australia, Hawaii, Bangkok, any of them all right but I hope I get Australia. Then I'll still have my 7 day leave, don't know where I'll go for that. I plan on being gone for 20 days or more for my R&R. If I come back at all. Ha.

Slow-gin fizzes, huh! Ok I'm hip. Sounds like a very good idea. What about a hamburger along with it? Ha.

I hope you find that piece (excuse me -- peace) of land you're looking for. Even if it takes a little while it will be nice in the end.

Right now we are on a three to five day ready reactionary. We can't leave the Company area without our Plt Sgt say so and then only for an hour.

In answer to your P.S:
Sweepers, sweepers man your brooms, give the ship a good sweep down fore and aft.
Now, form a five-man working party with Mr. Sparkman on the quarter deck.
Reveille, Reveille, all hands heave to and trice out (sic), Smoking lamp is lit in all birthing areas, Reveille.
Taps, Taps, lights out. All hands lay to their bunks, the smoking lamp is out in all birthing places, maintain silence below the deck. Taps.
No. 1 There'll be a beer party held on the pontoon for all 3/60 and Riverine personnel at 16:00
General quarters. General quarters.

Please keep writing, thank you
Dan

Sorry to hear you got assigned to an infantry unit. Keep trying, I'm sure you can get a discharge
Good Luck
